Grenada: The Caribbean’s Best-Kept Secret (That Won’t Stay Secret for Long)
Grenada is something entirely its own.
Some people call Grenada “a safer Jamaica.”
And while I understand the comparison… it doesn’t quite do it justice.
It’s the kind of place where the people don’t just welcome you—they genuinely want to share their island with you. Every conversation turned into a recommendation… and what stood out most? Everyone suggested the same places. When locals consistently point you in the same direction, you know you’ve found something special.
What Makes Grenada Different
This isn’t a see-and-be-seen Caribbean destination.
It’s authentic. It’s warm. It’s grounded in culture, food, and community.
- Some of the kindest, most genuine people I’ve met anywhere in the Caribbean
- A food scene centered around fresh, local fish and simple, incredible flavors
- A laid-back, unpretentious vibe that feels refreshing compared to more developed islands
Where to Stay (And How I’d Design Your Trip)
One of the things I loved most about Grenada is how different each side of the island feels.
My recommendation? Do both.
Start: Grand Anse (Energy + Beach + Accessibility)
Base yourself at:
This puts you right on the island’s most famous beach, close to restaurants, and an easy drive to St. George’s.
End: East Side (Wellness + Seclusion + Luxury)

This is where you go to exhale.
Set on the quieter Atlantic side, it’s not about nightlife—it’s about wellness, service, and truly unplugging.
The food, the programming, the level of care… all exceptional. One night we had freshly grilled fish cooked right on the sand—it doesn’t get better than that.
Where to Eat (Save This List)
Grenada surprised me most with its food. It’s not overly complicated—it’s just done really well.
Here are the places I’d confidently send clients:
- 61 West – perfect for a mid-afternoon bite (we went twice)
- Esther’s Bar – grab a drink and walk the beach
- Aquarium Restaurant – classic beachfront dining
- Sails Restaurant & Bar – great atmosphere and fresh seafood
- Brisa Mar – casual, consistently good
- Dexter’s – ideal for a more elevated final dinner
- Spice Market – fresh, flavorful tacos
- And if you’re lucky…
- the mobile jerk chicken cart in St. George’s (no name, just follow the locals)
Don’t Miss This Experience
Moliniere Underwater Sculpture Park

Snorkeling here is unlike anything else in the Caribbean.
It’s the world’s first underwater sculpture park—and it’s equal parts art, history, and marine conservation. We went out with Dive Grenada, and their team made it incredibly easy and accessible.
Getting There (Worth It, I Promise)
It’s not the easiest island to reach—but that’s part of the magic.
There are direct flights from:
- New York
- Charlotte
- Atlanta
- Miami
And because it takes a bit more effort to get to, it hasn’t been overrun. Yet.
Insider Tips You’ll Be Glad You Knew
- Use the online customs & immigration form before arrival → it saves a ton of time
- Wednesday nights at Dodgy Dock = live music + local energy
- Plan a split-stay to experience both sides of the island
- This is a destination for travelers who value experience over scene
Final Thought
Grenada isn’t trying to be the next big Caribbean hotspot.
And that’s exactly why you should go now.
It’s authentic, welcoming, and quietly luxurious in a way that’s getting harder to find.
Thinking About Grenada?
If you’re looking for a Caribbean experience that feels a little more intentional—better food, better service, and a deeper connection to the destination—I’d love to help you plan it.
