A little while ago, I shared an unpopular opinion: if you’re torn between Turks & Caicos and Grand Cayman, I’m sending you to Grand Cayman. Every time. Let’s just say it struck a nerve (in the best way). My inbox filled up with the same question over and over: “Okay, so how do I actually plan a Grand Cayman trip?”
So here it is: my honest, been-there guide to one of my very favorite islands. Where to stay, where to eat, what to do, when to go, and exactly why it keeps winning my heart.
Grand Cayman is an 8-by-22-mile island in the Caribbean that punches way above its size. Here are the five reasons it should be on your list:
- 🍽️ It’s the culinary capital of the Caribbean. With 250+ restaurants packed onto one small island, this is a genuine food-lover’s paradise.
- ✈️ You can fly direct. Cayman Airways flies nonstop from many U.S. cities, which means no dreaded Miami layover and more time with your toes in the sand.
- 🛡️ It’s incredibly safe. As a British Overseas Territory, Grand Cayman is consistently one of the safest islands in the Caribbean. Peace of mind, checked.
- 🌱 Sustainability is built in. From marine conservation to renewable-energy efforts, the island protects its natural beauty while it welcomes you.
- 🤿 It’s a diving and snorkeling dream. Think vibrant reefs, dramatic wall dives, and famous wrecks like the USS Kittiwake. The underwater world here is unreal.

Where to Stay in Grand Cayman
The right hotel depends entirely on the kind of trip you want. Here are three I love, and who each one is perfect for:
Kimpton Seafire Resort + Spa
My top pick. A chic, five-star property right on Seven Mile Beach with a design-forward, effortlessly luxurious feel. Ideal for couples, honeymooners, and anyone who wants their hotel to feel like a destination in itself.
Hotel Indigo
A vibrant four-star boutique option with personality and a fun, local-meets-luxury energy. Perfect for travelers who want something a little more intimate and design-driven without the mega-resort feel.
Grand Hyatt Grand Cayman
A larger resort with all the space and amenities you’d want for a family trip or a group getaway. Great for multigenerational travel and anyone who loves a full-service resort experience.
One thing worth knowing: when you book a property like these through me, you often receive added perks (think room upgrades when available, complimentary breakfast, resort credits, and early check-in) that you simply don’t get booking on your own. More on that below.
Where to Eat
Remember those 250+ restaurants? Here are three of my favorites to get you started:
- The Brasserie: farm-to-table (and boat-to-table) dining with ingredients that don’t get fresher.
- Ave: beautiful, refined, and a standout for a memorable dinner.
- Pom Pom: a rooftop spot with a view worth lingering over. Perfect for sunset.

Best Things to DoBest Things to Do
- Snorkel the reefs: the water clarity here is next-level.
- Visit Stingray City: stand in waist-deep water and meet the famously friendly southern stingrays. A total bucket-list moment.
- Seven Mile Beach days: sometimes the best plan is no plan. This stretch of sand is pure perfection.
When to Visit Grand Cayman
Honestly? Almost anytime. I visited in September and lucked into absolutely gorgeous weather, but I’ll be straight with you: September falls in peak Caribbean hurricane season, so it’s the one stretch I’d tell you to stay flexible around. The drier, sunnier months (roughly December through April) are the classic sweet spot, but Grand Cayman is a genuine year-round destination.
Getting There
This is one of Grand Cayman’s quiet superpowers: Cayman Airways flies direct, including nonstop from LAX. Skipping the Miami layover saves you hours and gives you an extra slice of vacation. Little things like this are exactly what make a trip feel effortless.
Grand Cayman vs. Turks & Caicos: My Honest Take
Since this is the debate that started it all, here’s where I land. Turks & Caicos is genuinely stunning, and I’d never knock it. But when I weigh the whole picture (the incredible food scene, the safety, the ease of getting there with direct flights, and that perfect Seven Mile Beach), Grand Cayman takes it for me.
If you want warm water, world-class dining, easy logistics, and a laid-back-but-elevated island feel, Grand Cayman is hard to beat. (And if you’re still Team Turks? I love that for you. Let’s talk.)
