(From a luxury travel advisor who just designed a multigenerational Morocco trip that stole everyone’s hearts.)

Morocco is having a moment, and honestly, it deserves one. I recently designed a trip to Morocco for a multigenerational family, three generations traveling together, and it was pure magic from the medinas of Fes to the dunes of the Sahara. When I shared a few moments on Instagram, my inbox lit up.
Here’s the honest truth, though. A trip to Morocco can be magic, or it can be overwhelming. The difference is entirely in the planning. So let me show you the trip I designed, and then share the four things I tell every client before they go.
A Peek at the Trip to Morocco I Just Designed
This family flew into Fes and never looked back. Here’s the shape of their week.
In Fes, they stayed at Palais Faraj Suites & Spa, a Virtuoso luxury property perched on a hill at the edge of the ancient medina. Picture a 19th-century Moroccan palace with sweeping views over the old city and hand-painted cedar ceilings. From there, a private guide led them through the UNESCO-listed medina, the historic tanneries, the souks, and a mint-tea visit inside a traditional home.
Next came the Sahara. After a scenic drive through cedar forests and the palm-lined Ziz Valley, they reached the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi and a luxury desert camp. Think en-suite tented suites, a camel ride into the dunes at sunset, dinner under the stars, Berber music by the fire, and sunrise over the dunes the next morning.
Then, instead of the long drive back, they flew straight from the desert to Marrakech (more on that trick below). In Marrakech, home base was Riad Palais Sebban, a beautifully restored palace tucked in the medina near Jemaa el-Fna. Their days were spent exploring Majorelle Garden, Bahia Palace, and the buzzing souks, with unforgettable dinners in between.
4 Things I Tell Every Client Before a Trip to Morocco
1. Timing Is Everything
First, timing. Spring and fall (roughly March through May and September through November) are the sweet spots. The weather is glorious then. Summer, on the other hand, is brutally hot, especially in the desert and in Marrakech. So if you have any flexibility, plan around those shoulder seasons.
2. Don’t Build Your Trip Around Casablanca
Casablanca has the big international airport, so many travelers assume that’s where the trip happens. It isn’t. Casablanca is a large, modern city. The real magic lives in Fes, Marrakech, and the Sahara. Notice that this family’s entire itinerary skipped it. That’s where your time and your nights should go.
3. Skip the Uber Roulette
Yes, the cities have rideshare apps. But I always send my clients with a private driver instead. It’s safer, it’s easier, and your driver actually knows where to take you. In a country this rich and layered, that local knowledge is worth everything. Better still, it turns a stressful transfer into part of the adventure.
4. Know the Desert’s Seasons
The luxury Sahara camps are a bucket-list highlight. However, they close around June 1st, because it’s simply too hot to stay open. So plan your desert nights for the cooler months. And here’s the tip most people miss, the one this family used: you don’t have to drive all the way back. Instead, you can fly straight from the desert to Marrakech, which saves hours and spares everyone a long road day.

A Couple of Marrakech Favorites
When you get hungry in Marrakech, here are two spots I love. Pétanque Social Club is perfect for a relaxed, stylish afternoon. Comptoir Darna is the one for a lively dinner with atmosphere to spare.
Why Morocco Is Magic for Multigenerational Travel
So why did this three-generation trip work so beautifully? Because Morocco gives every age something to love. The grandparents soaked up the history and the palace riads. The parents fell for the food, the design, and the souks. And the kids? They rode camels into the dunes and slept under a blanket of stars. It’s shared wonder, across every generation. If you loved my multigenerational trip guide, Morocco belongs near the top of your list.
Planning a Trip to Morocco: The Difference Is in the Details
Here’s what I really want you to hear. The right riads, the right guides, the right driver: that’s the part I design, so you just get to feel it. As a Virtuoso travel advisor, I book you into properties like Palais Faraj, with Virtuoso perks when available, and I handle every transfer, tour, and reservation. That’s how a trip to Morocco goes from overwhelming to unforgettable.
